Prospective PhD Student (Fall 2027)
We are looking for one PhD student to join our group in Fall 2027 through the UTEP Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) PhD Program.
We are looking for a student to work on management or restoration questions in Chihuahuan Desert rangeland or natural ecosystems, plant communities, or wildlife habitat using GIS, remote sensing, open-source data, or field studies.
A competitive applicant will have a strong academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA), communicate a clear motivation for why they want to earn a doctorate, and provide strong evidence that they are ready for PhD level research through examples of completed research products in plant ecology, remote sensing, natural resource management, ecosystem ecology, or a related field. Publications are strongly encouraged to demonstrate readiness for a PhD Program.

Include your CV and a 1 page summary of your research interests and career goals. As part of the UTEP Graduate School application, you must have three strong letters of reference and a 2-3 page personal statement describing your career goals and relevant previous research experience.
Funding for this program available in the form of departmental teaching assistantships and/or in combination with a research assistantship that is associated with specific grant objectives. Prospective students may also apply collaboratively with our lab to external fellowships, such as the NSF GRFP, to develop a more independent dissertation project.
