Prospective PhD Students (Fall 2027)

I mentor students in the UTEP Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) PhD Program. â€‹ A competitive prospective PhD student must have a clear idea of their research interests and motivation for why they want to earn a doctorate. A strong academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA) and previous independent research experience are required for admission to my lab. Interested students should check out the lab's ongoing research and recent publications for ideas of possible research topics. Publications are strongly encouraged to demonstrate readiness for a PhD Program. Please highlight any manuscripts that you have that are in prep, submitted, or already accepted. Applications are due to the UTEP Graduate School by Feb. 1, but interested applicants should reach out to ealarue [at] utep [dot] edu by email first. Include your CV and 1 page summary of your dissertation research interests.

Funding for this program and students that do research in my lab is primarily available in the form of departmental teaching assistantships and/or in combination with a research assistantship that is associated with specific grant objectives. Prospective students may also apply to external fellowships, which can provide greater flexibility to develop independent lines of research from my ongoing funded projects.
